Whiz Kids - How Does it Work?
Whiz Kids brings caring adults and educationally at-risk children
together in potent one-on-one tutoring relationships.
We challenge a church, or churches, to adopt an elementary school that has a
sizable percentage of students who would benefit from tutoring and who are
also on a free lunch program. In addition to recruiting tutors, the church
commits to supplying a Whiz Kids Tutor Coordinator, weekly snacks, and the
materials necessary for tutoring. Whiz Kids provides the training for tutors
and pays for the Background Checks necessary to become a tutor.
After the tutoring program has been well established, Whiz Kids helps the
church add an optional 30-minute spiritual club for students being tutored.
Students may attend when a permission slip has been signed by a parent. This
provides a great opportunity for relationships with the students to grow
deeper and to provide a connection to the church.
