While
the move from a correctional facility to freedom is a welcome chance for a
new beginning, often it is a difficult transition and a time where
individuals have many elements of basic life to re-establish – living
situation, employment, re-engaging with family and friends, etc. And in some
cases individuals leave prison without knowing what their next step is or
without a landing place.
This time in a person's life can also be a new opportunity to re-invent
their future, if it is surrounded by support, kindness and encouragement.
StepUp mentoring happens both at River City (Behavioral Correction Facility)
and around town in public places like restaurants, parks and coffee shops (3
months prior to release and a minimum of 3 months after release). Men are
also encouraged to pursue jobs at Jobs Plus through the program.
